A profile of Herbert Sufcliffe
by Dave Liverman

Player:H Sutcliffe

Hebert Sutcliffe played for Yorkshire and England mainly between the wars. One of three great Yorkshire opening batsmen who achieved 100 hundreds, he formed a notable opening partnership with Jack Hobbs for England. His strongest attacking shot was probably the hook (along the ground), but he had no weaknesses either in attack or defence, and was a great player on poor wickets. He was known for his smart appearance, always immaculately turned out. He was not known for his bowling, but was a competent fielder - usually outfield.
