EVELYN, Francis Lyndon.
Amateur.
Born at Corton, Presteign, Radnorshire, 24th May 1859.
Died at Kinsham Court, Herefordshire, 8th December 1910.
The son of Francis Evelyn, of Corton, Presteign, Radnorshire, he was educated at Rugby School, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1876-79. He went up to Oriel College, Oxford, and was a member of the University cricket eleven 1880-81, winning his blue in 1880. He also won a blue for rackets. He played in five first-class matches, all for Oxford University, his county cricket being played for Herefordshire 1879-91 and Radnorshire 1885. He was a J.P. and Deputy Lieutenant for Herefordshire and a J.P. for Radnorshire, becoming Sheriff in 1887.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was lodging at 10 Turl Street, Oxford, at the premises of Mrs Charlotte Hedderley, Tobacconist, her daughter Edith, housekeeper and her son Frederick William also a tobacconist. There are three undergraduates lodging there – Francis Lyndon Evelyn from Radnorshire, John Hartley Stirling from Cumberland and John Henry James Hornsby from Grantham. There were two domestic servants.
