FOLJAMBE, George Savile.
Amatuer.
Born at Osberton Hall, Nottinghamshire, 10th October 1856.
Died at Kensington, London, 13th September 1920.
Eldest son of F.J.S.Foljambe, of Worksop, Nottinghamshire, he was educated at Eton, going up to Christ Church, Oxford, gaining his B.A. in 1879. He was not in the cricket eleven, either at Eton or at Oxford, but he was top of his college batting averages in 1879. However he won a blue for royal tennis. He played for Nottinghamshire in seven matches 1879-81, and in 24 first-class matches in all. He played for Eton Ramblers for many years. His father was President of Nottinghamshire in 1887, his brother G.A.T. and, his nephews A.B.S.Acheson and E.A.B.Acheson played for the MCC, his son E.W.S. played for Oxford University and his brother-in-law W.Bury played for Nottinghamshire. He married Dora Margaret, the daughter of the Rev.Edmond Ware, headmaster of Eton. He was a J.P. and Deputy Lieutenant for Nottinghamshire. He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 4th Volunteer Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters, a C.B. and V.D.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was lodging at 5 Little St.James’s Street, Westminster.London, aged 24, a BA Oxford. The lodging house was run by Herbert Tutchell and his wife Mary J., both 34, who had a daughter, Edith A. aged one and there was one domestic servant. There was a boarder, Walter G.Hargreaves, aged 24, born in Bolton, a Cantab. B.A. lawyer, two other lodgers, John S.Calverley, aged 25, born Hanover Square, a B.A. Cantab. and William D. Malton, aged 51, born Marylebone, income from houses and land. The three lodgers and the boarder were all bachelors.
