FOWLER, Howard.

Born at Tottenham, Middlesex, 20th October 1857.
Died at Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, 6th May 1934.
The son of W.Fowler, M.P., of Leytonstone, he was educated at Clifton College, where he was a member of the cricket eleven, being captain in 1876. He went up to New College, Oxford, and played in the University cricket eleven 1877-80. In total he played in 17 first-class matches, his county cricket being played with Essex 1879-89 in their pre first-class days, and in Somerset in 1880. His brothers Gerald and W.H. both played for Somerset. He was a fine rugby player and represented Oxford University 1876-80, being captain in 1878-79. He played rugby for England v Scotland in 1878 and 1881 and v Wales 1881. He was admitted as a barrister at the Inner Temple 1883.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living at Forest House, Leyton Low, Essex, unmarried, aged 23, B.A.Oxford, a law student. Also present is his nephew, Alfred Fowler a 20 year old accountants articled clerk, and a visitor Christopher B. Thring, a 23 year old B.A. Oxford, solicitors clerk. There are three domestic servants.
