GADDUM, Frederick Ducange.
Amateur.
Born at Didsbury, Manchester, 28th June 1860.
Died at Stockport, Cheshire, 14th October 1900, as a result of a bicycling accident.
The son of George H.Gaddum, of Wittington, Manchester, a cotton goods merchant, he was educated at Uppingham at first but went on to Rugby, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1877-78. He went up to St.John’s College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the University cricket eleven 1880-82, winning his blue in 1882. He played in eleven first-class matches in all, including one in 1884 for Lancashire. In 1892 he is recorded as the hon. secretary of the Ishmaelites, a roving club. He became a cotton merchant at Manchester and latterly lived at Adria House, Didsbury, Manchester.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living with his parents, George H.Gaddum, aged 53, merchant cotton goods dealer, a British subject born in Austria, and Sophia S. aged 46, born in Manchester. He is described as an undergraduate student, age 20. Also present are his two brothers William H.A., aged 24 and Roger L.A., aged 12, and his sister Edith S.H., aged 23. There are five domestic servants.
