MILLER, Henry.
Amateur.
Born at Liverpool, Lancashire, 18th September 1859.
Died at Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, 11th April 1927.
The son of W.C. Miller, Falkner Square, Liverpool, a ship broker, he was educated at Uppingham School which he attended April 1874 to July 1877. He was not in the school cricket eleven but in 1880 and 1881 he played in five first-class matches for Lancashire. In 1882 he was apprenticed to an engineer, but by 1886 he was living in Assam, having become a tea planter. He played cricket in a few local games in Assam.
The 1881 Census finds him living with his father and mother at 15 Belvidere Road, Toxteth, Liverpool, aged 21, a civil engineer. His father William E. Miller is aged 58, born in Brazil, a ship broker, and his mother Lucy aged 55, born in Preston. He has four unmarried sisters Lucy E. aged 25, Emily aged 23, Maud A. aged 19 and Gertrude M. aged 15, all. Also present is a widowed sister-in-law of W.E. Miller, Charlotte E. Miller aged 45 born in Shropshire, and her two unmarried daughters Florence aged 22 and Ellen aged 18, both born in Derbyshire. Henry’s cousin Alfred Swainson, a sailor in the merchant service, aged 23, born at Preston is also visiting. There are four domestic servants.
