MYCROFT, William.
Professional.
Born at Brimington, Derbyshire, 1st February 1841.
Died at Derby, 19th June 1894.
He was the half-brother of Thomas Mycroft who played for Derbyshire 1877-85. He played in 138 first-class cricket matches, 78 of them for Derbyshire, between 1873 and 1885. He was only discovered by Derbyshire when he was 32 years of age and was in 1876 was engaged on the ground staff at Lords where he stayed until 1893. He umpired in first-class cricket. His health gave out in 1893 and he was finally laid low by influenza.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living at 10 Tapton Lane, Chesterfield, aged 40, an inn keeper, with his wife Sarah aged 36. They had eight children five sons, Herbert James aged 16, Mark aged 15, Tom aged 9, Allen aged 6 and Harry aged 5, and three daughters Fanny aged 10, Kate aged 3 and Alice aged 2. They have one domestic servant.
