PATTERSON, William Harry.
Amateur.
Born at The Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, 11th March 1859.
Died at Hove, Sussex, 3rd May 1946.
The son of Colonel William Patterson, of the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, his younger brother John Irwin also played for Oxford University and Kent 1881-82. He was educated at Harrow, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1877, and went up to Pembroke College, Oxford, where he was a member of the University cricket eleven 1878-81, winning his blue 1880-81. He played in 176 first-class matches in all, 152 of them for Kent. He gained his B.A. in 1881, his M.A. in 1889. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1886 and was a member of the firm of Nicholson, Patterson & Freeland, London. He was the joint captain of Kent 1890-93, a member of the MCC Committee 1893-97, 1898-1902 and 1904 and was President of Kent CCC in 1923.
In the 1881 Census he was a 22 year old student, born in London, living at 2 Laureston Place, Dover, Kent, with his parents, Lieutenant-Colonel William Patterson, aged 52, born in Liverpool, and Elizabeth, aged 38, born in Brighton. Also present are his two sisters Marion C. aged 18 and Dora aged 14, both born at Sandhurst. There are two domestic servants.
