SHUKER, Abraham.
Amateur.
Born at Stockton, Shropshire, 6th July 1848.
Died at Chell, Tunstall, Staffordshire, 11th February 1909.
He was educated at Brewood and went up to St. John’s College, Cambridge. Although he appeared for his college he played no first-class cricket for his University. In 1873 he played one match for Staffordshire and at that time was playing for the Wolverhampton Club. He became a master at the Trent College, Derby, and appeared 22 times for Derbyshire 1874-82.
The 1881 Census finds him in residence at the Trent College, Long Eaton, Derby, unmarried, aged 32, M.A. Cambridge. Also there are the headmaster Thomas F. Fenn, his wife and 7 year old daughter born in Wales and a nephew aged 7 born in Ireland. Visitors are Miss Edith Stubbs, aged 29, and the Dowager Madam O’Grady, aged 61 born in Wexford, Ireland. There are six masters and assistant masters in addition to Shuker and 34 servants etc. and 144 male scholars, aged 9 to 17.
