TAYLOR, John.
Professional.
Born at Pudsey, Yorkshire, 2nd April 1850.
Died at Boston Spa, Yorkshire, 27th May 1924.
He played for the Batley Victoria Club and was their captain in the 1870s. His debut in first-class cricket was for the North versus the South in 1875. In 1880-81 he was tried nine times by Yorkshire, without much success. During the 1880s he was engaged by the Armley Club. He was employed as a clerk and a traveller.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living at Clarence Street, New Scarboro, Batley, Yorkshire, aged 31, a commercial traveller in the woollen shoddy trade, with his wife Hannah, aged 30, and their daughter Susan H. aged 7.
