TOPHAM, Harry Gillespie.
Amateur.
Born at Ladbroke, near Southam, Warwickshire, 17th February 1862.
Died at Middleham Rectory, Yorkshire, 28th February 1925.
The son of the Rev. E.C. Topham, Hawkswell Rectory, Bedale, Yorkshire, he was educated at Repton, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1878-81. He went up to Jesus College, Cambridge, and was a member of the University cricket eleven 1883-84, winning his blue both years. He played in 16 first-class matches, including one for Derbyshire in 1881. He took Holy Orders and was curate of Holy Trinity, Greenwich, 1886-87, of St. Paul’s, Walworth 1887-92, of Milton, Hampshire 1892-94, of Farnham, Surrey, 1894-1900, and of Badshot Lea 1900-03. He was rector of Middleham, Yorkshire from 1903 until he died. In 1924-25 he published a series of articles in The Cricketer.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was still boarding at Repton School, aged 19.
