WHITE, Alfred Charles.
Amateur.
Born at Teddington, Middlesex, 28 February 1854.
He played in just the one first-class match, for Surrey v Sussex, at The Oval, 1st August 1881.
The 1881 Census shows an Alfred C. White, unmarried aged 27 born at Teddington a certified teacher, and this is believed to be the man. He was living in Esher, Surrey, with his father, Charles a 67 year old gardener born at Farley, Wiltshire, and his mother Caroline aged 68 born at Cobham, Surrey. His brother George A., aged 15 was also present, as was his mother’s mother, Anne Booker, aged 79.
There is also another Alfred C. White and unmarried railway clerk aged 26 born in Grantham, Lincolnshire. He was the stepson of Edward H. Smith, a widower aged 54 born in Bath, Somerset, a railway secretary, who lived at 30 Spencer Road, Putney, Surrey, with his sister-in-law Emma W. Cooper, unmarried aged 42 born at Grantham. Also present is a niece Annie M. Middleton, aged 15 born in Bombay. There is one domestic servant.
