A four wicket-haul by Sajid Mahmood enabled Lancashire skittle Derbyshire for just 127 in their pursuit of 166 to win in the T20 Cup 2009 at Old Trafford.

Asked to bat first, Lancashire compiled a competitive 165 with sizeable contributions from openers Paul Horton (41 off 20 balls) and T Smith (32 from 21 balls). The openers put in 75 runs for the first wicket and during this time Lancashire looked set for a big total.

Three quick wickets though put a little bit of halt to the scoring rate. Garry Park was the wrecker-in-chief amongst the Derbyshire bowlers as the right-arm medium pacer finished with a brilliant 4-0-23-3.

Finally a good knock by South African middle-order batsman Ashwell Prince (38 off 31 balls) took Lancashire to a decent total of 165 runs.

Chasing 166 to win, Derbyshire never really looked in hunt as they kept losing wickets from the word go. At one stage the team had lost three wickets with the scoreboard reading just 36.

The Lancashire bowlers bowled miserly with Glen Chapple leading the way. The right-arm medium-fast bowler bowled three overs for just 11 runs and also picked up a couple of important wickets in the top and the middle-order.

The only sizeable partnership for Derbyshire was between that of John Sadler (23 from 17 balls) and former West Indian Wavell Hinds (32 from 31 balls). The duo added 32 runs for the sixth wicket before Mahmood broke the partnership.

The Derbyshire innings finally closed at 127 for the loss of nine wickets, 38 short of the Lancashire total.
