Event:Pakistan in Australia 2009/10

DateLine: 18th January 2010

Australia had little trouble in wiping out the final vestiges of defence from Pakistan as the hosts completed a clinical 3-0 whitewash. It was Australia's 12th consecutive win over Pakistan and fourth such whitewash over the same opponents. Pakistan were dismissed for 206 handing Australia a massive 231 runs win. For the visitors Khurram Manzoor played a gritty knock in trying to delay the inevitable but post lunch the Australian bowlers made quick inroads into the Pakistani lower order to finish of the match in a hurry.

Pakistan resumed the day at 103 for 4 with the visitors hopes rested on the shoulders of the overnight batsmen Manzoor and Malik and also had an eye on the weather. But to the dismay of the Pakistani camp the weather cleared up making it perfect for a day cricket. Malik (19, 34 balls, 2x4) was caught behind of Siddle and then another wicket followed Sarfraz Ahmed (5, 27 balls) was caught brilliantly by Clarke in the slips of an improving Hauritz.

Manzoor (77, 239 balls, 8x4) showed a Collingwood-like character as the right-hander showed good temperament to hang in there. Though the right-hander had technical deficiencies he made it up in the batting crease with a gritty show of character. He was joined at the crease by another youngster Mohammad Aamer (30, 109, 4x4) who showed his much illustrious colleagues as to how to tackle the Australian bowlers who on many many occasions during the summer showed that they are pretty much one dimensional when under pressure. The pair added 66 in 31.4 overs for the seventh wicket before Manzoor's vigil was ended when he edged Hauritz to an alert Haddin. Gul (0, 2 balls) and Asif (0, 4 balls) departed in the space of six balls as the fight evaporated from the Pakistani camp and when Kaneria (1, 14 balls) fell Australia completed another remarkable win.
