Event: | New Zealand in Bangladesh 2010/11 |
DateLine: 5th October 2010
Bangladesh sprung a surprise on the the unsuspecting New Zealanders as they registered a comprehensive win of sorts. Rain had interrupted the match and it seemed that it was one of the factor that turned the match on its head. As long as Brendon McCullum was there in the middle a Kiwi win was always on the cards. But once the keeper-batsman was dismissed things went haywire for the visitors.

Shakib starred for the hosts as he made a fighting and crucial fifty and together with it claimed four wickets.
On winning the toss Bangladesh elected to bat first and they were of to a steady start. The absence o Tamim Iqbal was there to be seen as there were no explosions a the top-order. The Kiwi bowlers bowled a steady line and length and never allowed the hosts to get off to a flier. The innings was floundering as there was no real impetus before Shakib decided to take things into his hands.
The southpaw batted sensibly as he scored a fifty at better than run-a-ball. He helped th hosts to cross the 200 run mark and in the end set a target of 229 for the visitors.
New Zealand in reply lost Jesse Ryder early who never looked at ease in the middle. Brendon McCullum played in the way he knew as the runs came in a cascade. Unfortunately for the visitors barring Taylor and to some extent Vettori none of the batsmen contributed in a big way.
Though Taylor and Vettori put on a 50 run partnership it was devoid of boundaries. The Bangladeshi spinners then put a tight lid on the scoring and that hurt the visitors. Rain forced the Duckworth/Lewis system to come into play and the Kiwi target was readjusted to 210 in 37 overs. New Zealand could manage 200 runs and that handed over the match to the hosts who were ecstatic.LATEST SCORES
