Lancashire League champions Ramsbottom have signed Francois du Plessis as their professional for 2011.

The South African was signed by Ramsbottom last season on a short term contract when their original choice Usman Khawaja was delayed, becoming a legend during his short spell at Acre Bottom. He made 83 on his debut at Haslingden but sustained a hip injury which caused him to miss several matches. In his seven league matches for Ramsbottom he scored 392 runs at 65.3 with two half centuries and an unbeaten 133 at Colne the highlights. In the Worsley Cup du Plessis played a leading role in taking Ramsbottom into the final

The 26 year-old said: "It is a honour and privilege to re-sign at Ramsbottom. Ramsbottom has been the most professional club that I've been involved with. I can honestly say that I can't wait for my return there."

Cricket Chairman Andy Dalby said: "For what he did in such a short space of time, Faf was an obvious choice. The club have worked hard to make this happen, however in reality this was relatively straight forward process as Faf loves the club. Ramsbottom will always try and sign the best of the best and Faf is up there with a great list of professionals Ramsbottom have had in the past."
