Despite his father David being the England coach at the time, Graham Lloyds history of providing late innings fireworks for Lancashire meant he was a non-nepotistic pick for the England one-day team in 1996. However, in six matches (the last of which was in 1998-9) he averaged just 9.75, hit one boundary and had a strike rate a touch under 50, hardly the willow wielding inferno the selectors were hoping for. He at least had the consolation of a full domestic trophy cabinet though, thanks to Lancashires limited-overs exploits in the 1990s, although a top score of just 32 in Lords finals was disappointing. A First-class record of 24 centuries (with an average of 38) showed that he could also perform strongly in longer form of the game as well. After being squeezed out of the Lancashire side in 2002 (especially in the Championship), Lloyd announced his retirement. He now plays for Cumberland in the Minor Counties Championship, and Bootle in the Liverpool league, where he remains an extremely dangerous batsman.
