A number of teams, both amateur and professional, have represented Wales, or various regions of Wales, in first-class, List A and other friendly games.

Between 1905 and 1923 a team representing South Wales, drawn from the players of Glamorgan, Monmouthshire and Carmarthenshire, staged a series of friendly matches against English counties, international touring teams and other scratch teams. In 1923 the Welsh Cricket Union was formed and between 1923 and 1930 a side representing Wales played a series of first-class matches against Ireland, Scotland and the M.C.C., as well as touring teams and English counties. The Wales side contained leading players from North Wales, as well as amateurs and professionals from the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire teams. Many of the home games played by Wales between 1923 and 1930 were staged in North Wales at grounds in Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Rydal School. A team representing North Wales also played matches during the inter-war period, but these did not have first-class status. After the Second World War, these friendlies continued as the Colwyn Bay C.C. in particular, organised a festival week, with Glamorgan making a regular visits from the late 1940s to the Rhos ground to play a North Wales XI . In 1969 the Welsh Cricket Association was formed, and since then they have selected largely amateur or semi-professional sides to represent Wales in annual friendlies against Ireland, the M.C.C., and other teams. Between 1993 and 2001, their Wales team played in the Triple Crown series. Click here to see a listing of matches in this competition.

In 1988 Wales Minor Counties was formed and since then the team has played in the Minor County Championship, in addition to taking part in the ECB 38 County Competition, the MCCA knock-out competition, and various List A one-day matches in the Nat West Trophy and C & G Trophy. The Wales Minor County teams have also met overseas teams, including South Africa A and the West Indies, in addition to taking part in pre-season friendlies with Glamorgan. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 a Wales side was assembled for limited overs games against the England one-day team, prior to their participation in a triangular series of One-Day Internationals. The entirely professional Wales team was based on the home-bred players from Glamorgan, and other Welsh professionals with English counties. Click here to see a listing of these matches.
