George Harman, who was educated at Monmouth Grammar School, was a useful lower order batsman and good field. His First XI debut for Dublin University in 1895 was in that club's inaugural first-class match. He failed to hold his place in the side, but gained Second XI Colours from 1895 to 1897. He was also awarded First XI Colours in 1896, when he made 301 runs at 25.08 with a highest score of 59. That season he also made a half century for the A XI against the D'Oyly Carte Company, though The Irish Times reported that "The Thespians bowling was not very swagger." He also played some matches for the XI in 1898. Harman was much better known as a Rugby footballer, gaining two caps in the centre in 1899. At the time of his death he was the longest lived Rugby International in the home countries. Apart form his younger brother, the Cork County and Ireland batsman WR Harman, an elder brother SHP Harman was also a useful cricketer, being in the University XI in 1891.
