He had a strange legacy to his name as both he and his father Arnie were one Test wonders for England. His father never played again for the national team after his debut match, and when he debuted in 2001 against Pakistan, it seemed the same fate was ordained for him too. With his long, curly hair, he is a tall and well built left handed bowler who can swing the ball both ways. After a long due, second chance at international cricket, he is making the most of his second coming. He had left Yorkshire in 2004, after his debut failure, and instead headed to nearby Nottinghamshire, where he impressed in his first two seasons. He helped them to get promoted, and followed it up with 50 first-class wickets, and guiding them to the Championship title for the first time in 18 years. Six years after his debut, he was deservingly recalled to the England team and he responded with eight wickets against West Indies in his first match and developed into a key member of the line-up, helping England to a 3-0 series win. He is now one of the most important members of the squad as during the New Zealand tour in 2008, he picked up 24 wickets at 17.08, including 7 for 47 in the final Test, helping his side win 2-1.
