However long Charl Langeveldt plays one day cricket it will be difficult for him to top the performance he notched up against West Indies at Bridgetown in 2005. In what must be one of the most sensational finales in ODI history the right arm medium pacer took a hat trick to bowl South Africa to a one-run victory. Replying to South Africa’s 284 for six West Indies were 281 for seven when Langeveldt was given the onerous task of bowling the last over. With three wickets in hand, only four runs needed and Dwayne Bravo still batting victory seemed only a formality for the home team. But in a storybook finish Langeveldt dismissed Bradshaw, Powell and Collymore with the third, fourth and fifth balls of the over to give an unbelievable twist to the game. He finished with career best figures of five for 62 to help his team to clinch the series. In a team which is top heavy in fast bowling Langeveldt has had to battle for a place. He had innings figures of five for 46 on his Test debut against England at Cape Town in 2004-05 but has not managed to clinch a regular place. He has however proved his mettle in ODIs where his pace and late swing have troubled the best of batsmen. A member of the 2003 World Cup squad Langeveldt is almost certain to play in the Caribbean in 2007.
