Gifted with a backlift that resembles that of the great Brian Lara, Yuvraj Singh is one of the most talented cricketers to have burst on the Indian cricketing scene. He made the boldest entry in international cricket, when all of 18years old, he swept away the Australians with a classy 84 in the mini-world cup in Nairobi in 2001. In time, he has grown to be one of the central batsmen in the Indian team, who also fields very well as he has made the point area all his own. But soon he was thrown out of the team for a lack of consistency in his game and that his attitude was not right towards the other members of the team. He however continued to work hard and thus has been able to find his place back in the team. Ever since then he has become the batsman around which the batting revolves. His one weakness though has been to play quality spin. To overcome this factor, he more often than not plays attacking cricket to counter the spinners early on in his innings. The best he performed was in the Natwest Trophy final in 2001, when he took India to an improbable victory. Since then he made his test debut against Pakistan and immediately impressed with a maiden ton in the series. But due to the clutter in the middle order of the test team, he hasn’t been able to cement his place in the side even though he is now touching 26 years of age. The 2005-06 season proved to be a watershed for Yuvraj, with 1161 runs at 58 in the one-dayers, as he transformed himself into one of the keystones in India's batting line-up. A knee injury sustained before the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy meant that all the good work he had done was undone especially as India was knocked out of the 2007 World Cup early. Though the rest of the year brought better results for him, as he first helped his side win the T20 world cup in South Africa, during which he hit a record six sixes in one Stuart Broad over in a 12-ball fifty. Later he followed it up with an awesome Test hundred against Pakistan at Bangalore. Yuvraj was then included in India's Test squad for a four-Test series in Australia as calls for his selection became too loud to be ignored. He played as an ICON player for the Mohali franchise and led his team Kings XI Punjab to the semi-finals.
