Walker played for Middlesex in 1796 without being mentioned as a given men, so he was probably residing in the county. Middlesex had Wells as a given man. SB questions whether this was John Wells, but it seems likely that Middlesex (even with T Walker) would have needed reinforcement by a 'crack' player against Kent. W Beldham was the given man in the return match (if it can be called that - both games were at Lord's).
