This game immediately followed a match between England and XXXIII of Norfolk at the same venue. The identity of 'Brown', appearing for Lennox's XI, is uncertain; it may be the player of that name appearing in the Norfolk XXXIII, although J Beeston has also been suggested since it is known that the Beestons used 'Brown' as an alias. G Booth has also been put forward since he is known to have been present at Swaffham during the Norfolk match, but his unpublished diaries confirm that he left for Norwich on 19 July, proceeding thence to Yarmouth the following day. 'Wilson', in Winchilsea's XI, is likewise not known.
