Notes
--> R Hosmer made his debut in First-Class matches
--> B Rimmington made his debut in First-Class matches
--> Gibson made his debut in First-Class matches
--> J Minchin made his last appearance in First-Class matches
--> B Rimmington made his last appearance in First-Class matches
--> W Bowra (1) passed 500 runs in First-Class matches when he reached 19
--> Berwick achieved his best innings bowling analysis in First-Class matches in the Duke of Dorset's XI second innings (previous best was 1-?)

In the absence of distinguishing initials or any other evidence the appearances by May and Rimmington have been attributed to the best-known players of those names. This is the first of 8 matches between teams representing (broadly) East and West Kent, although also involving many leading players from outside the county. See the introduction for notes regarding the treatment of these games. Match titles vary from one source to another: sometimes the sides are named as East and West Kent, sometimes after the patrons involved. The titles used here have been taken from SB.
KG has significant differences, viz: Dorset (2) Bedster 12, Attfield 12; Mann (2) Stone 11, Berwick 2, Miller not out 34, Hosmer 9, Rimmington 20, byes 5, total 81-3. However, it does not say who was not out in Mann (2) apart from Miller and it has no dismissal details in either innings, so Epps is preferred as representing a more complete score, although KG is a more proximate source.
Contemporary sources do not provide first-innings dismissal details; although there is a printed scorecard in existence that purports to supply these details, the evidence suggests that this was produced about a century after the event so it is not regarded as a reliable source.
