'Many complaints were made at the umpires' decisions and indeed we never saw a game where so much dispute arose; Heath at last being changed for Selby. We will not hazard an opinion on the decisions of the umpires but merely state that two more unfit men than those at first selected never stood in any game. If deafness and blindness were qualifications they excelled but in all other particulars schoolboys would have been preferable' (Nottingham Review).
