Match notes
The opening day was not a good one for Queensland. Egan played well enough but most of the batsmen found difficulty with the pace of Renneberg and Croker. Croker captured four wickets for 4 runs in one over to end the innings. On the other hand New South Wales made a very good start and by stumps were in sight of a first innings lead with only one wicket down. On the second day New South Wales built a quite substantial lead before closing. Duncan and Skuse bowled well for Queensland but a number of catches were put down in the field. On the third day Hyde played a solid but unspectacular innings to become the youngest Queenslander to score a century in the competition. He received good support from Parker, Egan and Ziebell. Queensland closed setting New South Wales a run chase for victory. Marks hit out in a stay of one hour and hit twelve fours. By stumps New South Wales was just three runs short of victory.
