			Hello and welcome to the coverage of the 1st Test match in the three-match series between Sri Lanka and England, coming from the Asgiriya Stadium in the centre of Sri Lanka.
			England arrive back in Sri Lanka after a month away, in which time Sri Lanka have been over to Australia for two Test matches and lost them both. The visitors, rested after the quick-fire Twenty20 and subsequent ODI series over here coming on the back of their own domestic and international programme, know they face a battle of huge proportions to secure back-to-back wins over the hosts, especially now that world-record-holder-elect Muttiah Muralitharan is back.
			Murali needs just five more wickets to regain his mantle of leading wicket-taker in Test cricket and he will want to do it even more on his home ground of Kandy. He missed the opportunity of claiming the prize on the recent two Test tour of Australia, taking a measly four wickets and over 100 runs each but the wicket at the Asgiriya should suit him more - and no-one knows this ground like he does. He grew up playing his cricket here and the crowd will be supporting him all the way to 709 wickets!
			That is the challenge that England face on this tour. The 3-2 ODI series win is still fresh in the memory but the side will look decidedly different this time around, especially with Test match skipper Michael Vaughan back to lead. Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard, the two most potent bowlers England possess, could also feature but Harmison's back is playing up again and he may not be risked, allowing for the possibility for James Anderson, Ryan Sidebottom or Stuart Broad, who is yet to play a Test, to come in.
			This will be the 19th time these sides have met in Test matches, with England holding an 8-5 lead with five draws. The record at Kandy is England 1 Sri Lanka 0 with a draw too.
			This is the 21st Test match to be played at the Asgiriya Stadium, and the hosts don't have the most encouraging of records here either. Of those 20 previous games, they have won just six, lost nine and seen five draws.
			The first ever Test match between the sides was in February 1982 in Colombo where England ran out seven wicket winners in a fairly low scoring encounter. Sri Lanka recorded 218 and 175 before England rattled off the 171 to win for the loss of only three wickets. The most recent encounter, the third Test of the three-match series in 2006 at Trent Bridge will be remembered for Murali taking eight second innings wickets to level the series, Sri Lanka winning the game by 134 runs after being outplayed for much of the previous two games.
			The highest individual score for Sri Lanka v England is 213 by Sanath Jayasuriya at The Oval in 1998.
			The highest individual score for England v Sri Lanka is 174 by Graham Gooch at Lord's in 1991.
			The best bowling performance for Sri Lanka v England is 9-65 by Muttiah Muralitharan at The Oval in 1998.
			The best bowling performance for England v Sri Lanka is 7-70 by Phillip DeFreitas at Lord's in 1991.
			Unusually, there are two men from the same country taking the field here. Aleem Dar is a late replacement for Rudi Koertzen, who has been sent to India to officiate the India v Pakistan game with Billy Bowden taking ill. Dar is joined by Asad Rauf, a fellow Pakistani. Jeff Crowe from New Zealand is the match referee.
