JM Blackham who was injured at Wellington, played against Nelson but stood out of this match -- the Australia playing with only ten men. They were allowed a substitute to field.
Jarvis had his ear cut while batting and was hit by a ball from Palmer -- presumably also in the face while keeping wicket.
