Notes
--> Bowling in the Retford second innings adds 14 runs over

It will be observed that the All England Eleven is not composed entirely of Northern players, the last few remaining Southern cricketers viz. J.Caesar, H.H.Stephenson and E.Willsher having left that body and helped form the United South of England Eleven. The split between the North and South may now be considered complete, each attending entirely to their own interests, regardless of the welfare of the 'noble game.' Many good county matches have been partly spoiled (commencing in about 1862) by this 'schism'
Sale was caught by Parr in the Retford first innings but it is not known which of them took the catch.
