Northumberland won by seven wickets at 1.40 pm on the second day. Play ended early on the first day because of bad light. For Northumberland, Tomlin took all 10 wickets in the Norfolk first innings for 31 runs. It was statistically the best innings bowling performance of the season. It was a new record for the Championship, bettering the 10 wickets for 37 runs by D M Hayward for Cambridgeshire against Norfolk in 1898. No other bowler took 10 wickets in an innings during the season. Altogether in the match Tomlin took 13 wickets for 49 runs. Heslop's 36 for Norfolk was the highest individual innings in the match. The run aggregate of 303 runs was the third lowest of the season for a completed match.
