One of three opening matches of the season, Northamptonshire won by an innings and 260 runs at 4.10 pm on the second day.
For the winners, Thompson took 12 wickets in the match for 90 runs.
There were 14 fours in Horton's 95, 2 fives, and 11 fours in debutant Hall's 90, and 8 fours in Thompson's 79.
In the Northamptonshire innings, Horton and Kingston put on 102 for the first wicket, and Thompson and Hall 108 for the third wicket.
The margin of victory was the largest of the season, and a new record for the Championship, exceeding the innings and 233 runs win by Surrey 2nd XI against Wiltshire at The Oval in 1899.
The 470 runs total was the largest of the season without a century.
