Yorkshire 2nd XI won at 1.15 pm on the second day by an innings after enforcing the follow-on. For the winners, Oyston took 10 wickets in the match for 88 runs.. In the Yorkshire 2nd XI innings, Rudston and Rothery put on 143 runs for the first wicket.
Rudston's 79, scored in 65 minutes, included 14 fours and Rothery's 76 also contained 14 fours, an innings of 85 minutes. For the losers, Goatly's 83 included 12 fours. Davis took 7 wickets for 100 runs in the Yorkshire innings. Rushby suffered from sciatica and did not bowl in the Yorkshire innings. He left the field and F W Roberts of the Harrogate Club acted as his substitute. The 4 catches held by Crosland in the Surrey second innings were the most in the season. It equalled the championship record and was a feat achieved on two other occasions during the year. A month later in early July the ground was the subject of an early example of pitch tampering during the Yorkshire versus Kent County Championship Match which was declared void after the second day.
