Devon won this close match by 2 wickets mid-afternoon on the second day, after requiring in their second innings 154 runs for victory with over 4 hours to score them in. When Hawksworth joined Aston 27 runs were still needed. The winning runs were scored amid reported scenes of considerable excitement. For Monmouthshire, Steeples took 12 wickets in the match for 104 runs, including 8 for 50 in the Devon first innings. Diver top-scored with 43, an innings containing 4 fours. In Devon's first innings, Steeples took the wickets of Watts, Hayley and Light with the 1st, 2nd and 4th balls of an over.
