Nottinghamshire 2nd XI won this low-scoring fluctuating return match by five wickets at 3.30 pm on the second day. The encounter between the two sides at Stoke in June had been won by Staffordshire. SF Barnes was absent from the visitor's side because he was playing in the Fourth Test Match at Old Trafford. For the winners, Riley took 10 wickets in the match for 56 runs. The 16 maidens he bowled in the first innings were equal third highest of the season. For the losers, Bucknell took 11 wickets in the match for 58 runs, while Briggs top-scored in the match with 46.
