MORLEY, Frederick.
Professional.
Born at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, 16th December 1850.
Died at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, 28th September 1884.
By trade a frame work knitter his first verifiable engagement as a professional cricketer was with the Nottingham Commercial C.C. in 1869. In 1870 and 1871 he was at Bolton, in Lancashire, and in July 1871 made his first-class debut playing for the United North at Bolton. In 1872 he joined the All England Eleven and made his debut for Nottinghamshire. In total he was to play in 232 first-class matches, 113 of them for Nottinghamshire and four of them being Test Matches. He toured Australia in 1882/3. On the trip to Australia he was seriously injured when the ship was in collision with another and he never fully recovered. He died of congestion and dropsy at his home at the age of 33. His cousin Thomas played one match for Nottinghamshire in 1887.
He is living at Reform Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield at the time of the 1881 Census, aged 30 and a professional cricketer. His wife Hannah is a seamstress, aged 30, and their three children are Sarah A. aged 9, Harold aged 2 and Allen aged six months.
