Pakistan skipper Younis Khan said he was pleased his side finally played to potential and ended up with a solid performance in the one-day victory over Sri Lanka in Colombo.

 

Though the series is already lost, Younis was still looking to his batsmen to come good after a series of collapses in both the Test and one-dayers.

 

Though not many in the team did well but he himself (89) alongside brothers Umar (102 not out) and Kamran Akmal (57) made sure the side reaches 321 for five in their 50 overs, a total that proved way beyond the Sri Lankans.

 

"It's quite a relief," he said. "We've always been talking about building partnerships and accumulating runs and today we clicked.

 

"We did lose a couple of quick wickets, but Umar and I hung in there and got the runs. It wasn't easy because it was hot and humid.

 

"Umar was fantastic today and its always pleasing to see a young player moving up the ranks.

 

"In maybe two or three years several players in this team are not going to be around and it's always pleasing to know when you move on that you've left Pakistan cricket in good hands."

 

Younis also praised the the standard of his side's bowling and fielding saying it was much better than in previous matches.

 

"Iftikhar was fantastic today. He bowled the right line and the right length," he added. "At one stage they were going along nicely, but our bowlers responded very well.

 

"Naved's catch in the deep to dismiss Chamara Kapugedera was brilliant.

 

"The batting was good up front and I'm particularly pleased with the standard of our fielding.

 

"Overall, it was a fantastic team effort and great commitment."
