The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has cold-shouldered Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved from the Pentagular Cup teams although chief selector Mohsin Khan has insisted that their omission has nothing to do with the ban.

Mohsin said that the senior players were not included in the five teams announced for the tournament because of their non-availability.

"The PCB ban imposed on them is for playing for Pakistan and not domestic tournaments. The players are allowed to play in domestic events," Mohsin said.

He said Younis was not included as he is not in the country while Yousuf had already announced his retirement. The chief selector also added that Rana Naved had been left out of the teams to play county cricket while Shoaib was due to get married in Hyderabad on April 15.

The four senior players were banned and fined by PCB last month after an inquiry committee found them guilty of indiscipline during Pakistan's disastrous tour of Australia.

The selectors have included controversial pacer Shoaib Akhtar in the Federal areas team for the tournament starting from April 17 in Lahore. The selectors have also asked leg-spinner Danish Kaneria to join his county side Essex after the one-day tournament.
