Day 1:
Heavy rain in the night and another shower just before the scheduled time to start resulted in play in the first day between. Sir Julien Cahn's XI and a Scottish XI at Stanford Hall, Loughborough, being confined to less than two hours, though the drawing of stumps was extended to seven o'clock.

 

Scotland won the toss and took first innings, but lost two wickets for 22 runs in just over half an hour. J. C. Wykes edged a ball to first slip and R. M. Macfarlane trying to glance a ball round his back, was taken at fine leg, A. R. McLeod batted steadily, his hits including a stylish cut to the boundary but Hall, who took the first two wickets, bowled very well and was difficult to get away. Walsh, going on for Jackson had J. Kennedy in trouble, and finally beat him with a spinner that just took the bails off.

 

Batting was not too easy, for the setting sun threw the shadows of trees across the pitch. Fifty was reached in an hour during the fourth wicket partnership. Scoring however, continued on the slow side, the batsmen finding it difficult to get the ball past a keen field.

 

A. K. McTavish scored 6 runs in twenty minutes, when he paid the penalty of hitting out at Walsh, being caught at deep mid-on. R. A. J. Heron might have been caught at the wicket off Walsh before he had scored but Maxwell failed to hold the ball McLeod, after being at the wicket ninety-five minutes, was caught at slip and then wickets fell fast, eight being down for 89 at the close.

 

Day 2:
As on Monday, only two hours play was possible in the match between Sir Julien Cahn's XI and a Scottish XI at Stanford Hall, rain in the night being followed by a dull day.

 

Fifteen minutes play finished off Scotland's innings, Walsh taking five wickets for 34. Cahn's XI were left with roughly ninety minutes batting, and McTavish and MacKenna opened the bowling. Sir Julien Cahn cut McTavish to the boundary, and C. S. Dempster got a lucky 4 off MacKenna. McTavish gave way to Laing, who, in turn, was changed in favour of Laidlaw.

 

Scoring was on the slow side, 50 taking fifty-five minutes. With five runs added, the turning ball from Laidlaw deceived Cahn H. G. Vivian survived appeals for leg before off the first two balls he received from Laidlaw. Dempster, who started slowly increased his pace after losing Cahn, and two boundary drives off successive balls from Edward helped him to 50 out of 75 in just under an hour. Well caught in the long field, he included six boundaries. Vivian, after mistiming one or two deliveries from Edward, also hit out powerfully, with the result that the Scottish total was passed without further loss. The game was continued till just before seven, when Hall's wicket fell.
