Shane Watson Profile

Player:SR Watson

DateLine: 19th February 2007

A dynamic all rounder Shane Watson is one of the young breed of players who have come good of late particularly in one day cricket. Watson is one of those utility cricketers who are indispensable in the limited overs game. Unfortunately he has been plagued by more than a fair share of injuries but that has not stopped this ambitious cricketer from making a substantial contribution whenever he has got an opportunity. He bats with a swagger in the middle order but has not exactly failed when pushed up the order – even as opening batsman. He is a clean striker of the ball and when bowling his medium pacers can be pretty sharp having good control over swing. After almost 50 ODIs he is still in the midst of consolidating his place in the side though in his case it can safely be predicted that his best is yet to come. But with the embarrassment of riches around he has found it hard to get a regular place in the Test team. Winner of the Bradman Young Cricketer of the year award in 2002 Watson’s fighting qualities have earned him praise from his teammates and former cricketers and he is expected to play a crucial role for his team in the Champions Trophy in India.
