Player:Yuvraj Singh

DateLine: 19th February 2007

He announced his arrival on the international scene with an electrifying knock against Australia in the Champions Trophy game in 2000.A star is born screamed the headlines. In the six years since then Yuvraj Singh has lived up to this billing and has emerged as one of the few charismatic figures in Indian cricket, easily recognizable on the cricket field as in the numerous ads for the products he endorses. Tall, strong and fearless the prodigiously talented Yuvraj first made a mark as a prominent member of the Indian Under-19 side that won the World Cup in Sri Lanka in early 2000. The selectors, recognizing his talent early gave him the big break by pushing him into the squad for Nairobi and Yuvraj took little time to display his dazzling skills not only with the bat but also with his brilliance in the field, his probing slow left arm spin being added bonus. He was a natural in the ODI scheme of things and shaped many notable victories the NatWest Trophy triumph in England in 2002 being the most notable. But by now it was clear that Yuvraj, who stroked the ball fluently and was not afraid to loft it, was Test match material too. And he did not let his backers down for in only in his third Test on a green top at Lahore he scored a sparkling century off 110 balls. Since then he has been an integral member of the squad in both forms of the game.
