DateLine: 20th February 2007
Blending caution and aggression judiciously the right-handed Boeta Dippenaar has been one of the stalwarts of the South African side in the new millennium in both forms of the game. Either in the opening slot or in the middle order he has been a fairly prolific run getter, statistically the highest point in his career being the 429-run unbroken third wicket partnership he put on with Jacques Rudolph against Bangladesh at Chittagong in April 2003, Dippenaars share being 177 not out. The partnership is the third highest in Test cricket for this wicket. He has been a regular run getter at both positions and his superb fielding at cover is an additional asset. Dippenaar has also been an integral part of the ODI squad generally opening the batting and his form reached a peak when he averaged over 100 in the five match series in the West Indies in 2005. Three centuries in Tests and four in ODIs underline the ability of Dippenaar who played in the 2003 World Cup to adjust admirably to both forms of the game. Technically correct in Tests and a bit of a dasher in the one-day game Dippenaars value to his side cannot be overemphasized.
