Xavier Marshall Profile
by CricketArchive

Player:XM Marshall

DateLine: 17th June 2008

He is an extreme talent with the bat, and is very electric in the field too. But to add to that Marshall has a fiery temper and an equally fiery tongue which, in early in 2005, caused him to be reported for bad behaviour during three away games, but since West Indies are desperate for finding new talent to fill big voids in their batting order, this potentially good batsman has been given a number of opportunities to fulfill his promised talent.

He made his ODI debut against Australia in January 2005 and, in June, he was named West Indies' Youth Cricketer of the Year. He made his test against Sri Lanka while on tour in the same year but he failed to impress in the opportunities given to him, after which he disappeared from the national radar for several years. He re-emerged for a surprise Test recall against Australia in Antigua in 2008, a surprise because he had made only two half-centuries in Jamaica's successful first-class campaign in 2007-08. However, he didnÂ’t belie the selectorsÂ’ faith in him and responded with a well made 85 when he was asked to open in the second innings.
