South Africa was able to polish off the remaining wickets on the fourth day of the first test match against Bangladesh and win the match by a comfortable margin of an innings and 129 runs. Resuming at their overnight score of 67/3, the Bangladeshis failed to face up to some genuine pace and collapsed to 159 all out.

Mohammad Ashraful was the first batsman to depart on the day. Makhaya Ntini, who looked to have found his bowling rhythm back bowled one from around the wicket and Ashraful could do nothing but to edge it to the gully. Shakib Al Hasan, who had a five wicket haul in the South African inning followed soon after that when he tried to pull a short delivery from Dale Steyn but only managed to edge it to the keeper Mark Boucher. And 81/5 became 81/6 when wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim was involved in a misunderstanding with Mehrab Hossain and was run-out for another duck.
Steyn continued with his good work and his searing pace had Naeem Islam caught behind, to leave the tourists at a hopeless 92/7. There was some lusty hitting by Shahadat Hossain and Hossain after this collapse, but Steyn returned to clean up the tail and the tourists were all out for 159. While Steyn got five wickets, Hossain remained unbeaten on 43.
Graeme Smiths brilliant 157 on the first day got him the Player-of-the-Match award. The second and the last test match begins on the 26th at the Centurion.LATEST SCORES
