Biography:Styled Viscount Althorp 1845-December1857, when he succeeded his father as 5th Earl Spencer. MP for Northamptonshire South March-December 1857. Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1868-74, 1882-85; Lord President of the Council 1880-83, 1886; First Lord of the Admiralty 1892-95. MCC President 1861-62.
