Tennyson attempted to declare 40 minutes before the end of Day 2 but as Day 1 had been rained off the rules for two day matches applied where a team could not declare later than 100 minutes before close of play. The England innings resumed after a delay of 20 minutes and Armstrong was allowed to bowl the first over in resumption having bowled the last over before the break.
