The Americans, it is believed, went in first, but in another account the Gentlemen of England did. The American side was composed of members of New York and Philadelphia combined - The English of seven of those who went to Australia with four others. After the match the Americans went in again, when Mr Webbe bowled four of their wickets for eight runs, and play then ceased.
On May 9 Mr Webbe played a match of racquets (the best of three games) with Mr E.A. La Montague and won the two first. The loser however was, it was stated "about 58 years of age."
In the evening the Englishmen were guests of the New York Club. On Saturday May 10 at 8.30 most of the team left by the S.S. Baltic for England. Lord Harris and Messrs. Absolom and Mackinnon returning by the next boat.
