Match drawn with Lancashire 2nd XI winning on first innings. For the visitors, Hope took 8 wickets for 25 runs in the Staffordshire first innings. Statistically, it was the third best innings bowling performance of the season. For Staffordshire, there were no boundaries in Barnes's 53. He also took 7 wickets for 37 runs in the Lancashire 2nd XI innings. Brown carried his bat through the first Staffordshire innings. The start of play was delayed by half an hour on the second day. Heavy rain at 3.30 pm stopped play and, as the rain showed no sign of halting, the match was abandoned at 4.30 pm. 3,000 spectators were reported to have been present on the first day when, in contrast to the second, the weather was fine.
