Monmouthshire won this return match by 187 runs at 4.15 pm on the second day. Cornwall required in their second innings 284 runs to win in a little over three hours. The match between the two teams at Newport in July had also been won by Monmouthshire. For the winners, Steeples took 10 wickets in the match for 89 runs, including 8 for 37 in the Cornwall second innings. There were 11 fours in Tatham's 72 and 8 fours in P C Phillips's 50. For Cornwall, Humphreys who was making his debut took 9 wickets in the match for 123 runs, including 7 for 68 in the Monmouthshire first innings. In the Cornwall second innings, when Tresawna was bowled by Steeples one of the bails ended up "30 paces behind the wicket".
