Suffolk won this return match by two wickets at 6.27 pm on the second day. Suffolk required 173 runs to win in their second innings in just under 3 hours and the victory was achieved amid reported scenes of great excitement with just 3 minutes to spare with Penfold scoring the winning runs. The match between the two sides at Ely in July had also been won by Suffolk. For the winners, there were 1 six and 11 fours in J F Ireland's 102. In the Suffolk first innings, J F Ireland and Bird put on 133 runs for the fifth wicket. In addition, J F Ireland took 9 wickets in the match for 111 runs. For the losers, Hunt scored 56. Coulson took 9 wickets in the match for 93 runs. C Pigg strained his leg and this prevented him from fielding in either innings or batting in the Cambridgeshire second innings. H Hoyland fielded as his substitute and held two catches. The margin of victory for a team batting fourth was the joint closest of the season.
